Vilseck In The Snow
Since we’ve had so much snow here lately, I thought I’d look for winter pictures of Vilseck! Here’s a really pretty one :) I can’t wait to get there!
My goodness, we are getting a lot of snow today! It is 19 degrees outside right now, & the snow is still coming down! My nephew wanted to play in the snow, so my sister & I got him all bundled up (us too!) & went out with him. It only lasted about 5 minutes. The snow was up past his knees, the wind was blowing snow into our faces, & I had to carry him everywhere because he was...
Don's Headed To The Mountain Phase!!
Don called me this morning! I woke up at 7:30 to a call from him & was so excited! I thought that I may have been dreaming; I’ve been so anxious to be able to finally talk to him! He has passed the first phase of Ranger School & is now in phase two, the Mountain Phase — I’m so proud of him!! He sounds great, other than the fact that he is sick & exhausted :( But...
My Nephew & I Made A Rainbow Cake! Recipe :)
My 3 1/2 year old nephew, James, & I had so much fun this afternoon making a recipe that I stumbled across online: Rainbow Cake! I saw this recipe on a fun website all about color & design, which I enjoy, called Color Lovers. Of course, I immediately thought about my little nephew who was about to visit & the fact that I thought he’d get a kick out of this! And did he...
Another Letter From Don :)
I received another letter from Don today! He wrote while riding the bus that was taking them to an area where they’d be brushing up on their Airborne skills. He sounds like he’s really in it now, not getting much sleep & staying extremely busy. He had a 12 mile ruck march, among other rigorous tasks he had to perform, & did well on them all. I know it’s so tough &...
Great Way To Support Our Troops - Dogs!
We got the catalog FetchDog in the mail today, & there is a great article on a puppy training organization called Puppies Behind Bars. They train prison inmates to raise service dogs that are eventually given to injured veterans who have served in Iraq & Afghanistan. I thought this was such a neat organization that I should share it :) Here is the Puppies Behind Bars website page that...
I Got 2 Letters From Don!!
Yay! I got two letters from Don today! I was like a little kid when I was opening them & reading them, I was so excited! Letters are so much fun to get anyway, but when they’re our only form of contact, they’re absolutely wonderful! He’s doing great with Ranger School so far. He passed his RPFT (Ranger Physical Fitness Test) on the first try (woohoo!), completed the CWST...
Quick Little Update!
Don has been in Ranger School for a week now, & he must be doing great because I haven’t heard a word from him! Strange that means all is well, but it does! I do catch myself carrying my phone around, waiting for a call or text message…then I think to myself, “Amanda! He’s not going to call or text! He can’t!” Habit, I suppose :) Hopefully I’ll...
Best Chocolate Chip Cookies :)
Don loves chocolate chip cookies. While he was doing his BOLC training at Fort Sill he would often ask me to make him some, and then he’d have one or two when they came out of the oven. I wondered why he wanted me to make these cookies for him if he didn’t eat more than a few right away! Well…he’d eat them for breakfast :) Sadly, I can’t make cookies for Don for...
Write A Ranger!
Don started Ranger School today. I talked with him this morning before everything started up, and he is doing really well! Ready to begin…and to be finished also :) Don sent me a temporary address to use until he finds out his company and platoon. If you’d like to send him a letter, which he’d love, please email me (email@example.com) and I’ll give you the address! ...
